The production of an annual budget is an important function of property and facilities managers.
When it comes to budgets, in the majority of cases, energy is one of the meatier figures. Often, even a 1% increase from the previous financial year can result in a noticeably hefty increase. We know noticeable increases are not desirable!
Coming up with an accurate figure can be trickier than you think. A lot depends on how well energy supply accounts have been managed in the preceding financial year as a fixed rate contract will always be at least 15% cheaper than a variable rate contract.
The most effective method of creating an energy budget is to base it on actual energy usage and kwh rates. It is not adequate to simply budget based on the amount spent in the previous financial period.
