Yesterday we were warned snow was on the way. #breadwatch trended on twitter and we all wondered if anything was really going to happen! When we woke up this morning it was clear businesses, schools and most services would be disrupted in some way around the country.

I've decided to keep the office closed and let my staff work from home. With proper planning and communication in place our service will continue and we hope to all get a good days work done.

Here are a few tips on how to make working from home work for you...

1) Get dressed

Today might seem like the perfect day to lounge around in your PJs? You will have a much more productive day if you get in the shower and get dressed. Not only will the shower invigorate and wake you up, but getting dressed will psychologically put your mind into work mode. (You'll also be ready to take or make video calls if needed)

2) Make a schedule

Sit down and make a list of all the things you were planning on getting done at work today. Arrange them in order of importance as working from home can be distracting so it's good to know that the most important stuff will definitely get done

3) Make a dedicated space

Take a while to get set up comfortably with everything you will need. If you have kids off school let them know you're working from home today. I've hung a DO NOT DISTURB sign on the door and it seems to be working for now.

4) Communicate with the rest of the office

In our last blog we mentioned all the great online tools we use everyday to stay on top of the game and get things done. Today we are sharing files on Dropbox and have a team meeting planned after lunch via Skype.

5) Don't feel guilty

Don't stress about working from home. There's no point. Focus on what needs to be done and try your best! Also remember, it's not that often we get this much snow, so get out there on your lunch break and build a snowman ☃️
